When buying a new car, is the sales tax figured in to the MSRP? would a car with an MSRP of say $25,000 already have the 5-15% sales tax on it, or would I have to pay an extra 5-1-% over MSRP?
Audi RS6 Avant for your time
EDIT: got my question answered... fuck... well, i'm not buying a Juke NISMO RS then...

Idk about overseas but in the US the MSRP does not include sales tax. You pay tax on top of MSRP.

I am not a dealer/salesman, but no, MSRP has nothing to do with tax.
When you buy, you need to plan for taxes, registration fees, title fees.

also in the USA tax varies from state to state.

Tax is not included in MSRP, and the tax will be on the price you pay plus whatever the manufacturer rebates are. So if msrp is 25,000, and you pay 22,500 with manufacturer rebates of 1,,500, tax tax would be based on 24,000.

Back to the Golf/Jetta, then

Why can't you get the car because of tax? Is it that close to your budget that tax bumps it over?
On a side note, the true car price for the Nismo rs is $26,0XX. You should be able to get it for at least that price.

Theres always negotiation. I got my elantra which stickered near $23,000 for $20,000 including tax.

yeah, it does... bumps it up to between 28and 30K. way too much for me...

well actually, a little something that's on sale right now and sports 3/2 of a GTI's HP number is an option as well...

It is not built in to the MSRP. The sales tax rate is different depending on where you live. In some states you don't pay any if you buy used from an individual. Georgia used to be that way until the big dealers encouraged lawmakers to implement it across the board to kill incentive on private party sales. It was a great way to save potentially thousands over buying from a dealer, and my favorite way to buy a car.

Ok...for real what is your max budget including tax, title and tags? And what is the sales tax in your area?

with all the fees calculated in, budget is $26,000. The sales tax in my area is 9.5%.

9.5% WOW...I thought it was rough here in NJ with 7%. Ok, so 26k out the door as we call it including all taxes and fees. Oh yeah, what is your zip code?

98052. and yeah, all of Washington state is that bad...

Ok...I'll see what I can find later today.

Funky hot-hatch, lot's of features, long warranty, 6MT- Veloster Turbo. There were plenty of automatics but I figured you wanted 3 pedals. This one is used, but it only has 2k miles on it. That will save you 4k rather than buying new.

thanks! i'll take a gander at it! i'm not too big of a fan of the 3-door thing though,...

It has 4-doors the other side has a one of those suicide door thingies. Ok...5-door hot hatch, u no like Fiesta ST?

FiST's are good! I'd be happy with a Manual Juke NISMO though

There are only 8 within 200 miles and all are above budget, even if we can get them down 2 grand (unlikely) with tax title and tags you are still too much. We need to aim for the 21-23k range.

hmm....
they MSRP at $23,500, right? keep in mind that I can get $1500 off a Nissan since a friend of ours is a fleet salesperson, so we have access to the "family/friends" discount.
![]() 07/29/2014 at 11:03 |

Yes that is their starting price, but there are none in inventory withing 300k miles of you. IIRC ordering one was not an option because they are limited edition. Also, even if you could get one at 23,500 with no options add that 9.5% and you are at 25,732 not including title and tag fees which will most likely push you over 26k.

look, i'm flexible. I have $30,000 set aside for this, but don't intend to spend more than 26K. that's an arbitrary cap, and going $200-$300 over isn't a big deal. I found a new base v6 mustang for $19k earlier today. I added that to my list.

From a professional standpoint the Juke RS is cool car but I don't think it is worth 26-28k considering what you are getting. It is unique, it is fun but it should be 24-26k for that type of hardware.

agreed. hence my frustration at the situation. *sigh* i'll just look at the standard NISMO Juke. that thing's cool and funky as well!
